China: Fine Dining Fades but Shelves Stay Open - US Products Hold Their Ground in Nanchang
Nanchang, the capital of Jiangxi Province, recorded a Gross Domestic Production (GDP) of $114.2 billion, up 4.9 percent from the previous year on record. Its per capita disposable income reached $8,350, about 18 percent higher than the national average. Despite the economic growth, local consumption is constrained by conservative spending habits, moderate purchasing power, and economic headwinds emerging in late 2025. Consumers in Nanchang, much like the rest of China, have become increasingly price-sensitive across all consumption sectors. Even so, the market remains welcoming to U.S. retail products, with potential for items such as wine, whiskey and seafood. In addition, the city’s vibrant and competitive baking industry presents additional opportunities for U.S. food manufacturing ingredients such as nuts and dried fruits.
